Woman killed at waste management warehouse in Fort Worth

Police said the material weighed one ton.

FORT WORTH, Texas — A woman was killed overnight at a waste management warehouse in Fort Worth early Thursday morning.

Fort Worth police responded to a call from a Republic Services warehouse in the 6200 block of Elliott Reeder Road near Haltom City, shortly before 2:30 a.m.

Renisha Mitchell, 31, an employee, was crushed to death when a round bale of recycled materials fell on her. Police said the material weighed one ton.

The bale was stacked on top of two other bales when the pile became unstable and toppled. The incident remains under investigation.

Republic Services sent WFAA the following statement:

"It is with great sadness for the entire Republic Services family that we learned early this morning that one of our employees will not be making it back home safely to her family. We are mourning the loss of our friend and coworker, and our thoughts and prayers are with her family, her children and loved ones. Republic is fully cooperating with the local authorities, and any additional media inquiries should be directed accordingly. Thank you."
