Waxahachie water is muddy and smells like rotten eggs, residents say

"I would never let my kids drink out of my water. We buy bottled water. We buy cases every week."

On the southwest edge of Waxahachie, a community of people want to be heard. They’re worried about the dirty water in the neighborhood.

You can find several concerned residents on Mesa Road.

“Let’s stand up. Let’s do something,” said Nicole Horton. She’s lived there for six years. “We don’t mind paying the money for the water, but I’m not going to sit here and pay for something where I have to let my water run for 45 minutes to an hour to get the orange out of it.

Kathy Cheeser, a resident for 10 years, has the same concern. She said, “I would never let my kids drink out of my water. We buy bottled water. We buy cases every week.”

And just down the street is another frustrated neighbor named Jacob Moore. He lives on Mesa Road with his two young daughters and wife. They’ve been there for three years and are frustrated. When Moore got home to bathe his daughters on Monday, the tub was filled with brown water.

Moore decided to take a video of it. He posted it on Facebook, and it was shared and viewed by so many people. He said they even have a Facebook group addressing the water company.

“It’s Carroll Water Company,” said Moore. He said he’s called them numerous times. “They laugh at us. They’ve hung up on us.”

WFAA reached out to Carroll Water Company and a woman picked up. “Look. They fixed the leak. It was broke. They fixed the leak. It’s been fixed so there is nothing wrong with their water,” she told WFAA reporter, Tiffany Liou.

The woman on the phone said they mailed out a boil order on Monday, but residents have not received it yet. She hung up before answering any further questions.

“Fixing one leak is great in a timely manner, but this happens weekly,” said Moore. He said this fix is temporary and still doesn’t think it’s safe to use the water. For now, he and his neighbors are relying on bottled water as they demand a long-term fix.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality said the state has received two complaints in the last five years from the Spanish Grant Subdivision. Those two complaints are not regarding brown or cloudy water this week. The TCEQ asks concerned residents to contact the complaint hotline at 1-888-777-3186.
