The 2024 presidential election is on Nov. 5 and in the months leading up to Election Day, some celebrities have voiced their support for President Joe Biden or former President Donald Trump

A meme recently went viral appearing to show pop star Taylor Swift announcing her support for Biden. The meme includes what appears to be a Biden and Kamala Harris 2024 campaign logo and the text, “TAYLOR SWIFT BACKS BIDEN.”

“Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the headline process it so desperately needs,” a quote seemingly from Swift says.

This X post published on July 7 and featuring the meme has more than 500,000 views. It was also shared on July 8 by Royce White, a Republican Senate candidate in Minnesota.

People in the comment section claimed the endorsement was old while others questioned whether any of it was real.

THE QUESTION

Has Taylor Swift endorsed President Joe Biden in the 2024 election?

THE SOURCES

THE ANSWER

This is false.

No, Taylor Swift hasn’t endorsed President Joe Biden in the 2024 election. The meme was created using an old image quoting Swift’s 2020 endorsement of Biden and a fake Biden campaign logo.

WHAT WE FOUND

As of July 12, Swift has not publicly endorsed any candidate in the 2024 presidential election. VERIFY checked Swift’s social media accounts, and there is no evidence from national news or Swift fan sites to back up claims that Swift has endorsed Biden.

The meme that’s been circulating was first published by First Coast News, a news station based in Jacksonville, Florida, on Oct. 9, 2020. First Coast News is owned by TEGNA, the same company that owns VERIFY. The original image does not have a campaign logo. The logo for the Biden campaign seen on the meme is fake.

The quote on the graphic comes from an Oct. 7, 2020 interview Swift did with V Magazine. She said, “I will proudly vote for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris in this year’s presidential election. Under their leadership, I believe America has a chance to start the healing process it so desperately needs.”

Following the interview, several news outlets, including First Coast News, reported that Swift would be throwing her support behind Biden. As part of their reporting, First Coast News created a graphic that included a portion of her quote with the headline: “TAYLOR SWIFT BACKS BIDEN.”

That 2020 graphic was used to create the meme that has been shared as a 2024 presidential endorsement.

The logo for the Biden campaign was added to the graphic to give the appearance it is a recent endorsement. But the actual Biden/Harris logo doesn’t look like that.

The real logo for the Biden and Harris ticket, which can be found on Biden’s campaign website, doesn’t include a blue border with red stars and uses a different font.
