'Tree yoga' takes ancient exercise back to its roots

"Tree yoga is much less formal. It's getting outside, enjoying nature and all the beauty it has to offer," said one tree yogi.
'Tree yoga' is a new twist on an ancient exercise.

ID=28286243McKINNEY -- A group of self-proclaimed "tree-huggers" is taking yoga to new heights in McKinney.

Hal Pruessner is the founder of TreeYoga, which is exactly what it sounds like -- yoga performed with the use of a tree. He trims some of the city's trees, free of charge, so he and his classes can enjoy tree yoga.

"Tree yoga is much less formal. It's getting outside, enjoying nature and all the beauty it has to offer," said one tree yogi.

ID=28285837The group uses bands called "multislings" to hold many positions suspended above the ground. Some positions even involve hanging upside down.

"It's harder than you think and you don't know until tomorrow that you had muscles in places that you didn't know you exercised."
