Search for suspect in robbery, attack that left clerk with severe head injuries

Police say a store clerk suffered such severe head injuries she needed surgery after she was attacked during a robbery on July 2 in Sunnyvale, Texas.

A search is underway for an unknown man who attacked a store clerk, leaving her with three fractures to her orbital eye socket.

Police said it was about 4:30 a.m. on July 2 when the victim was attacked after she entered a Valero Gas Station to open the store for the day in Sunnyvale, Texas.

As the store clerk turned off the alarm a man slipped in through the employee entrance and knocked her to the ground.

Police said the man forced the clerk to a safe inside the store and then an ATM before he put her inside a cooler and fled out the employee entrance.

The clerk suffered severe injuries to the head and underwent surgery for three fractures to her orbital socket.

Surveillance video captured during the robbery shows the robber wearing a black hoodie with a small white Nike logo in the center of the back and dark blue sweatpants with blue shorts underneath.

The suspect covered his face, but he was also wearing white Nike sneakers, a red hat and yellow and gray gloves.

Police said surveillance video recorded at about 4 a.m. captured images of a silver vehicle, "possibly an HHR or PT Cruiser," that may have been driven by the suspect.

"He was very careful in avoiding the cameras and keeping his face covered up but had trouble keeping his pants up as he ran away," read a statement released Tuesday by Sunnyvale police.
