DALLAS — You might not expect the path to emotional wellness to start inside a cycle studio but that’s what happened for instructor Lexi Brawer.
“I really love this," she said while spinning on her stationary bike. "I'm passionate about this."
It’s a passionate pack that’s made SoulCycle popular from coast to coast. Now, it’s made its way to North Texas in Dallas’ Preston Hollow neighborhood.
“A lot of my readers want to know what's new in town,” said lifestyle blogger Tanya Foster, who joined one of SoulCycle’s first classes in Dallas. "I blog to the 40-plus age group. I feel like if this is working for a lot of people, this is something you should definitely try and give it a chance.”
The lights go down, music kicks up, and class begins. Suddenly, you’re not alone on that bike. Driven by the downbeat, everyone moves in unison.
“In SoulCycle, it's not about beating your neighbor," Brawer said. "There's no winning involved; there's no hitting a number. It's about feeling the beat, riding to the rhythm.",” said Brawer.
Together, riders sweat out bad breakups, lost jobs, baby weight, depression. And that’s why for diehards like Brawer, there’s no cost too steep to be part of this community. Drop-In classes cost $30 per 45 minute sessions.
“I came for a workout and I left with family and friends,” said the Boston-transplant, who moved to Dallas days ago for the opportunity to teach at one of SoulCycle’s newest locations.
For Brawer, being part of this cycle community feeds the soul in a way nothing else has.
“It’s a gift," Brawer said. "It’s been a dream in my life."
A gift she wants to share, now, in North Texas.
“It's really a pack and I couldn't be prouder to be part of it,” she said.
