Greed & The Grid: A Texas energy expert has a theory about our high electricity bills across the state

The fragility of electricity supply in Texas has been an issue since the near total collapse of the grid in the winter of 2021. Is it ready for another hot summer?

DALLAS — As we get ready to simmer through another summer in Texas, keep an eye on the grid.

Yes, again.

The fragility of electricity supply in Texas has been an issue since the near-total collapse of the grid in the winter of 2021

In this episode of Y'all-itics, University of Houston Energy Fellow Ed Hirs says the "fixes" that Texas legislators have put into place since just haven't been enough.

He sees the potential for summer days ahead where supply might have trouble keeping up with growing demand. And even if there is enough power to go around, he explains why we are paying more for it.

Why should you care? Well, already ERCOT has warned Texans that they could potentially see rolling outages this summer.

So, what gives?

Listen in to this episode of Y'all-itics as Hirs tries to explain.

And, remember, you can catch a video version of Y’all-itics on Wednesdays at 8:30pm on WFAA+, too.
