On Oct. 15, Texas' incumbent Republican U.S. Sen. Ted Cruz and his Democrat challenger Colin Allred will participate in a debate on WFAA.

DALLAS — On Oct. 15, Sen. Ted Cruz and Rep. Colin Allred will participate in The Texas Debate.

The debate starts at 7 p.m. on WFAA and WFAA+, our station's free streaming app. It will be moderated by WFAA's Senior Political Reporter Jason Whitely and Gromer Jeffers from the Dallas Morning News.

On Tuesday, WFAA met with both campaigns to do a coin toss determining the order of opening and closing statements. Rep. Allred won the toss and chose to start the opening statements. As a result, Sen. Cruz will conclude the debate with his closing statement.

Here are the rules agreed upon by both campaigns:

  • Candidates will get 60 seconds to introduce themselves
  • Candidates will get 90 seconds to answer a question
  • The opponent will then get 90 seconds to respond
  • The first candidate will then get 60 seconds for rebuttal
  • Moderators will have a 60-second follow-up if needed
  • At the end of the hour, candidates will get 60 seconds to make their final pitch to voters

Election day is Nov. 5.
