IRVING, Texas — U.S. Rep. Beth Van Duyne, R-Irving, launched an ad in the New York Post on Tuesday in an effort to recruit New York police officers to move to North Texas.
"If radical-left New York politicians won’t support the brave men and women in law enforcement, we encourage those officers to move to North Texas," Van Duyne wrote in a tweet on Wednesday. "We love low taxes, growth, opportunity, freedom, and our brave men and women in blue!"
The ad goes on to use provocative language, alleging that officers don't have to be "beaten on the streets by gangs of illegal immigrant criminals."
"And you don't have to be endlessly insulted with budget cuts by Defund the Police politicians," the ad reads. "It's time for you to leave these loathsome and destructive fools behind. ESCAPE FROM NEW YORK!"
The advertisement concludes with a list of North Texas law enforcement agencies and their email addresses, along with a link to Van Duyne's campaign website.
In a statement, New York City Mayor Eric Adams said the NYPD is composed of the best, brightest and strongest in the nation, who have driven down violent crimes since the start of his administration, with overall crime being down year to date.
"Instead of wasting New Yorkers' time and Texans' money to try to gain cheap political points, Representative Van Duyne should focus on finding ways to reduce the high homicide rates in Texas that have continued under her time in office," Adams wrote in the statement.
