Texas Congresswoman says Democrats only changed the name at top of ticket, not the policies

Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne also touts her upcoming North Texas Job Fair that attracts thousands of workers and hundreds of businesses.

DALLAS — With Vice President Kamala Harris likely replacing President Joe Biden at the top of the ticket, Congresswoman Beth Van Duyne, R-Irving, argues the more things change, the more they stay the same.

“The decisions that have led to record amounts of inflation, have led to our border crisis, all those are still on Harris’ back to have to answer for,” the Republican told us on Inside Texas Politics. “It’s not like you’re getting something different at the top of the ticket. All of the policies still remain the same, just the name has changed.”

We also discussed the Congresswoman’s successful passion project, the 2024 North Texas Job Fair, which brings together thousands of job seekers and hundreds of businesses, including plenty of large, well-known companies.

In 2022, 6,000 people showed up during the first year of the job fair.

They expected fewer people last year, but participation ballooned to 16,000.

And Congresswoman Van Duyne says twice as many people have already RSVP’d for this year’s event as they did at this time last year.

“We’re expecting this to be a huge fair. We’ve got pretty much every industry: transportation, healthcare, technology, retail, you name it, is represented at this job fair. We have 400 businesses that are hiring,” the Congresswoman said.

And you’ll find much more than entry-level positions.

There are full-time jobs, and part-time jobs, and nearly a third of all jobs will pay six figures, so Van Duyne says the C-Suite is represented as well.

They ran out of parking last year at the Irving Convention Center, so this year the job fair will be held at Globe Life Field.

“I think it’s a unique opportunity to have all of that under the same roof for people to be able to bring their resumes and just be able to go aisle by aisle and talk to these businesses that are hiring in North Texas,” she told us.

There will also be an entire area dedicated to veterans, who can find jobs and services available just for them.

And there will be a drive-through for parents to pick up thousands of free backpacks containing school supplies.

The 2024 North Texas Job Fair will be held on August 8 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Globe Life Field.
