DALLAS, Texas — Former president Donald Trump made a stop in Dallas on Saturday, speaking at the National Rifle Association’s Leadership Forum at the Kay Bailey Hutchison Convention Center.
The former president spent nearly two hours talking about many important topics, like the war between Israel and Hamas, inflation, and border security.
“We're under siege with the guns, the rifles, and everything else we're under siege,” said Trump.
Hundreds of people filled the room on Saturday. Trump urged those in attendance to vote.
“You've got to get all your friends all the gun owners they have to go and they have to vote if they vote there's nobody that can beat us nobody,” said Trump.
Trump has repeatedly promised to protect gun owners’ rights if he is elected.
This is despite calls from advocates for policy changes after mass shootings in recent years.
Just 12 days ago May 6th, marks one year since the Allen Outlet Mall shooting. A gunman killed eight people and wounded several others. Saturday also marked six years since the Santa Fe shooting where 10 people died and 13 others were injured at a high school outside of Houston.
Earlier in the day, protestors against the NRA gathered outside of City Hall. A victim of the Allen Outlet Mall shooting was one of the speakers advocating for stricter gun laws.
Gov. Greg Abbott spoke before Trump and received praise from the former president.
Trump's parting words to his supporters were, “We’ve got to get gun owners to vote.”
Trump first addressed the NRA in 2015 and the meeting in Dallas marked his ninth address to the organization.
This comes as Trump’s hush money trail continues in New York. Trump is accused of falsifying Trump Organization business records as part of alleged efforts to suppress stories he feared could hurt his 2016 presidential campaign, as the Associated Press reports.
Trump and President Joe Biden are expected to debate in June.
