DALLAS – Republican presidential frontrunner Donald Trump named Katrina Pierson, a Tea Party activist from Garland, as his top spokesperson on Monday.
"Katrina understands the need for real change in Washington, D.C. and the importance of competence in the next election. Katrina will continue to be a great messenger as I share my vision to Make America Great Again," Trump said in a news release his campaign issued Monday afternoon.
In September, when Trump held a rally at the American Airlines Center, Pierson was one of only a couple of speakers who addressed supporters before the candidate took the stage.
"I am honored to officially join the Donald J. Trump for President Campaign. Mr. Trump is a proven leader with unparalleled capabilities and successes. He has consistently demonstrated he is the only one who can Make America Great Again and I am proud to help spread his message," Pierson said in the same campaign statement.
She owns her own consulting business and also works for the Tea Party Leadership Fund, making frequent appearances on cable talk shows.

"She is well-known as a political analyst and media contributor on a wide range of issues including the state and federal budgets, civil liberties, community organizing, and health care," Trump's campaign wrote.
In 2014, Pierson unsuccessfully challenged U.S. Rep. Pete Sessions in the Republican primary.
Pierson rose to prominence in political circles as a top volunteer in Ted Cruz's 2012 campaign in which he defeated Lt. Gov. David Dewhurst and succeeded retiring U.S. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison.
Trump returns to Texas on Saturday when he will host a rally in Beaumont.
