DALLAS — Mitch Little, a lawyer for Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton during his impeachment trial last year, won the Republican primary in the race for state House District 65 in North Texas.
Little, a first-time candidate, defeated incumbent State Rep. Kronda Thimesch by a narrow margin of less than 300 votes: 10,951-10,653, according to the latest results with all precincts reporting.
Little will now face Democratic opponent Detrick Deburr in the November general election. Deburr ran unopposed in the primary and earned 5,084 total votes.
House District 65 spans southern Denton County.
Little, of Lewisville, is a partner at the Frisco law firm Scheef & Stone. He played a prominent role in the impeachment defense of Paxton, alongside high-powered attorneys Tony Buzbee and Dan Cogdell.
Little on Twitter early Wednesday morning thanked his supporters.
"There are not enough words in the English language to thank those who gave, volunteered, and supported my family through this hard-fought campaign," he posted.
In Thimesch, Little defeated one of the House Republicans who voted to impeach Paxton last year. Little had served as Thimesch's campaign treasurer before resigning ahead of Paxton's impeachment trial, the Texas Tribune reported.
