DALLAS — Sen. Ted Cruz in The Texas Debate attacked Democratic challenger Colin Allred on the economy and inflation, tying Allred's policies and platform to those of Kamala Harris -- and blaming the two for a "spending binge" that has led to inflation.

"The inflation caused by Kamala Harris and Colin Allred's spending binge is hurting Texans across the board," Cruz said.

Cruz accused Democrats of borrowing trillions of dollars from China "we don't have," and causing prices of goods to rise across the board.

"They didn't care," Cruz said. "Texans at home are experiencing it. you're finding it harder and harder to pay your bills."

Cruz also accused Allred and Harris of staging a "war" on the energy industry in Texas.

Allred said he's been focused on lowering the costs of things like healthcare and housing, and that when he voted to cap the cost of insulin, Cruz voted against it. That was a claim denied by Cruz, who said he voted to cap the cost of insulin at $1 per vial.

Allred also brought a familiar attack on Cruz: His trip to Cancun during the 2021 winter storm in Texas.

"This is someone who goes to the Ritz Carlton in Cancun, do you really think he cares about inflation?" Allred asked.
