TARRANT COUNTY, Texas — For the first time, voters in Tarrant County had the opportunity to elect members of the Tarrant Appraisal District's board of directors. The Tarrant Appraisal District board is tasked with helping to oversee the organization responsible for property tax appraisal in the county.
Last year, voters in Texas approved a measure to allow three of the nine appraisal district board members in the state's 50 largest counties to be elected rather than appointed. Tarrant and Dallas County are both among that group, and thus see board of directors positions on their ballots.
In place 1, Sayeda Bilqees Sayed, a member of the Colleyville Planning and Zoning Commission who served on the Tarrant Appraisal Review Board from 2019-2021, faced off against Trae Fowler, a former mayor and city councilmember of Haltom City, and Eric Morris, a former Haltom City councilmember.
With all vote centers in Tarrant County reporting, Eric Morris led in Place 1 with 54% of the vote, followed by Syed with 25% of the vote, and Fowler with 21%
In place 2, Colleyville Mayor Pro Tem Callie Rigney faces Eric Crile.
With all vote centers in Tarrant County reporting, Rigney leads Crile in Place 2 with 62% of the vote.
In place 3, Chuck Kelley, a former Colleyville city councilmember and planning and zoning commission member, faced off against Lee Henderson, a national public policy and advocacy strategist, and former Southlake Carroll ISD trustee Matt Bryant.
With all vote centers in Tarrant County reporting, Bryant leads with 50% of the vote, followed by Henderson with 31% and Kelley at 19%.
The election comes a bit more than a month after the Tarrant Appraisal District responded to a ransomware attack in March.
