Election results: Justin Holland, Katrina Pierson runoff election in Texas House District 33

Incumbent Justin Holland, R-Rockwall, faced a challenger, former Trump campaign official Katrina Pierson, in the May 28 runoff election.

ROCKWALL, Texas — Incumbent State Rep. Justin Holland, R-Rockwall, is projected to lose to challenger Katrina Pierson, who served as a consultant on former President Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, in the GOP primary runoff election in Texas House District 33.

Holland, a real estate broker, was elected to his first term in the Texas House in 2017. Holland was challenged from the right after he failed to support school voucher bills and for a committee vote to raise the age to buy a long gun from 18 to 21 after hearing testimony from victims and survivors of the shooting in Uvalde.

As of about 10 p.m., Pierson led Holland with 56% of the vote to Holland's 44%.

Pierson was endorsed by Gov. Greg Abbott, Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick, Attorney General Ken Paxton, and Agriculture Commissioner Sid Miller.

On Super Tuesday, in a district that includes Rockwall County and a portion of Collin County, both candidates earned about 39% of the vote, with Pierson leading Holland by 202 votes. Dennis London came in third with 22% of the vote.
