Police officer shoots, kills armed man outside Arlington club

Wednesday night's deadly shooting happened in the parking lot of the Star Saigon Bar and Grill on East Arkansas Lane in Arlington.

ARLINGTON -- An Arlington police officer on patrol shot and killed a man with a gun outside of a night club late Wednesday, investigators said.

The officer pulled up to the Star Saigon Bar and Grill on East Arkansas Lane where he saw the man firing gunshots into a crowd of people, Sgt. Christopher Cook said.

The officer fired at least one shot at the suspect, killing him. The officer was not hurt.

A preliminary investigation showed a group of nearly two dozen people were fighting inside the club when it spilled into the parking lot, Sgt. Cook said. A security guard flagged down the officer, who was on traffic patrol at the time. The officer pulled into the parking lot and confronted the man firing gunshots.

The officer is on routine leave pending the outcome of the criminal and administrative investigations underway now.

Arlington police asked area hospitals to notify investigators if anyone shows up with injuries possibly caused by the fight at the club.
