Fort Worth residents complained about noise at Panther Island Pavilion rave

Residents as far as 10 miles from the Pavilion complained after feeling the bass from the Ubbi Dubbi Festival.

FORT WORTH, Texas — Dale Blackwood has never been to a rave, but he felt like he was at one last weekend.

Blackwood could feel the bass at his Sansom Park home, six miles away from Panther Island Pavilion, which was hosting the Ubbi Dubbi Festival.

He couldn't believe he could hear the bass so far away.

Blackwood wasn't the only one complaining about the music. Several neighbors posted online, some as far as 10 miles away at Marine Creek Lake.

"Is it really worth it to know that there are a lot of people out there that are in pain and suffering simply because they want to make a few bucks?" Blackwood wonders.

He said the problem could've been resolved by turning down the volume.

"I wasn’t wanting the festival to stop, if they could have just turned down the bass, it could have been fantastic," Blackwood said.

The Trinity River Water District owns the property and issued the permits for the event. And Panther Island Pavilion officials said the festival was in compliance with the City of Fort Worth's noise ordinance.

City officials said they were investigating the noise complaints.

For Dale Blackwood and his partner Clint Nelson it's a simple fix.

"Just turn the bass down. Have the festival. Have the festival. Have all the concerts. But be aware of your surroundings," Nelson said.

"I am not embellishing. I am not exaggerating, it was absolutely insane," Blackwood said. "I felt like a prisoner in my own house."

The Panther Island Pavilion released the following statement:

"There were several live music events occurring in Fort Worth last weekend that appealed to a broad range of diverse audiences and provided unique cultural experiences for the community. To our knowledge, the Ubbi Dubbi event at Panther Island Pavilion was in compliance with the City of Fort Worth’s outdoor noise ordinance.  However, we are sensitive to the concerns of the surrounding neighborhoods and residents. The information that has been submitted by citizens, as well as the weekend’s atmospheric and wind conditions is very beneficial and will be studied. This will be taken into consideration not only for monitoring compliance at future live music events but also used to make improvements as well."

The city of Fort Worth also released a statement:

“The city is addressing the noise complaints we received regarding the recent Ubbi Dubbi event at Panther Island Pavilion. We are sympathetic to the concerns of residents and impacted surrounding neighborhoods. We do plan to meet with all parties involved to ensure future events have appropriate noise mitigation plans in place.”
