Recall: More than 45,000 Ford vehicles recalled over door latch issues

The recall includes 2015 Ford Fiesta, 2016 Ford Fusion and 2016 Lincoln MKZ vehicles.

WASHINGTON — Ford is recalling more than 45,000 vehicles over issues with door latches.

The recall, which was announced on Nov. 17, includes 2015 Ford Fiesta, 2016 Ford Fusion and 2016 Lincoln MKZ vehicles. The automaker said a component inside the door latches may break, allowing for the doors to possibly open while driving.

Out of the roughly 45,000 cars recalled, 41,000 are Ford Fusion models. There are 198 Fiesta and 3,914 Lincoln MKZ vehicles affected as well in the recall.

Vehicles sold or registered in Alabama, Arkansas, Arizona, California, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Louisiana, Mississippi, New Mexico, Nevada, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Carolina, Texas, Utah and Washington are affected.

The recall also includes vehicles sold or registered in some U.S. territories, including Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.

Owners will be notified by mail if their vehicle is included in the recall. Letters will be mailed the week of Dec. 4, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The recall number for these vehicles is 20S15.

Dealers will inspect the door latches for date codes and if necessary, will replace all four door latches for free. Consumers may also contact Ford customer service or the NHTSA.

In 2020, Ford recalled more than 268,000 vehicles over door latch issues. The recall then covered 2014 through 2016 Ford Fusion and Lincoln MKZ, and the 2014 and 2015 Ford Fiesta.
