WASHINGTON — National Nurses Week is underway and a number of national businesses are offering discounts and freebies for the men and women who play such an important role in healthcare.
What is National Nurses Week?
In 1982, President Ronald Reagan signed a congressional resolution and proclamation making May 6 a national recognition day for nurses. National Nurses Week grew out of that resolution, eventually becoming a multi-day event similar to Teacher Appreciation Week.
When is National Nurses Week?
National Nurses Week is an annual celebration that runs from May 6th to May 12th. According to the American Nurses Association, this year's theme is "Nurses Make the Difference."
What deals can I get during National Nurses Week?
A number of businesses offer freebies and discounts for nurses and hospital staff, usually available by showing a hospital ID when making the order. Here are some of the promotions:
- Chipotle: Nurses and other healthcare workers can sign up to be one of 100,000 people to receive free burrito coupons with a valid ID. Signups will run from Monday, May 6 to Friday, May 10 and winners will be picked around Tuesday, May 14.
- Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza: Nurses get a 20% discount on any order with a valid ID from Monday, May 6, to Sunday, May 12.
- BurgerFi: Nurses can get 20% off of all orders with a valid ID from Monday, May 6, to Sunday, May 12.
- Buffalo Wild Wings: Nurses get 20% off all orders with valid IDs from Monday, May 6, to May 12, on dine-in, walk-in and call-in orders.
- Create Amor: Nurses looking to buy scrubs can get 25% off using the code NURSE25 through June 7. Additionally, the company will donate $1 per set to the American Nurses Foundation and will donate 100% of proceeds from each Iris Five Pocket Top sold directly to the foundation.
- Dunkin': Nurses can get a free medium hot or iced coffee on Monday, May 6. Some exceptions, like frozen coffee and nitro cold brew, apply and may have an additional charge.
- The Greene Turtle: All healthcare workers, including nurses, can get a free meal worth up to $15 on Monday, May 6, with a valid ID.
- Happy Joe’s Pizza & Ice Cream: Nurses can get a 10% discount at participating locations from Monday, May 6 to Friday, May 10.
- Insomnia Cookies: Nurses with a valid ID can stop by any of the cookie chain's 240 locations to get a free classic cookie from Monday, May 6 to Sunday May 12.
- Pancheros: Nurses with a valid hospital ID can get a free entrée with the purchase of another on Wednesday, May 8, at participating restaurants.
- Peter Piper Pizza: Nurses can get a free personal pizza every day from Monday, May 6 through Friday, May 10, with a valid ID.
- Potbelly Sandwich Works: Nurses can get a free cookie or drink with the purchase of an entrée by showing their ID Monday, May 6, through Sunday, May 12.
- Salata Salad Kitchen: Healthcare workers get 20% off their order when they present their badge at checkout on Monday, May 6.
- Skechers: Nurses will get a 10% discount on all shoes during May on the Skechers website with a valid ID. Non-healthcare online shoppers will have the purchase to round up their purchases, with the proceeds going to the American nurses Foundation.
- Sockwell: Nurses get a free pair of socks when they buy at least three pairs at full price from Monday, May 6 through Sunday, May 12.
