BRISTOL, Tenn. — Kyle Busch has said he’d consider running the Indianapolis 500, but only after he won a NASCAR championship first.
With the goal of a Sprint Cup title checked off the list in 2015, Busch and wife Samantha have been hinting at a possible Indy 500 run for Busch on their social media accounts. And it could happen — but not this year, Busch said Friday.
“(Sponsors have) actually shown some interest in it and that was kind of fun for me to hear there might be actually an opportunity there if I continue my relationship with them from the Cup side to the IndyCar side,” Busch said. “We have to work out all those details and it’s certainly not going to happen for this year, but maybe in some future years we’ll see what we can put together.”
Busch said team owner Joe Gibbs would be “the hardest one for sure” when it comes to convincing people to let him do it, followed by Samantha.
“Samantha is not necessarily a fan of it and I’ve talked to her about it a little bit,” Busch said. “She’s just like, ‘I’ll be there when the time comes, but don’t tell me.’”
Busch's older brother, Kurt, was the last driver to pull off the Indianapolis 500/Coca-Cola 600 "double" in 2014. Busch finished sixth at Indy driving for Andretti Autosport.
