Witnesses: Racial slurs led to Oak Cliff Wal-Mart brawl

It's the kind of drama spilling into a family-friendly store that Walmart says it won't tolerate.

DALLAS – We're learning more about a video thousands of people saw on Facebook. Employees say racial slurs are at the root of a fight inside a Cockrell Hill Wal-Mart.

You can hear customers screaming in the cellphone video as they watch a brawl breakout inside the store late Thursday night.

The video posted on the Oak Cliff, Dallas Texas Latino Facebook page got more than 45,000 clicks in a matter of hours.

"It's bad," said Sir Jonathan Finely. "It's real bad."

Wal-Mart associates told News 8 that a man and woman were throwing racial slurs at another customer when fists started flying.

Dallas police say the suspects, who did not know the victim, took off before police arrived.

"Sometimes I fear for my life up here," admitted Eboni Putilla. "I really do."

What worries her is knowing racial intolerance is still a big problem across America and in North Texas.

"We deal with racism every day, and it's sad to see that it's still going on," she said.

Juan Roque, a customer, agrees.

"Everywhere you go, there's always drama no matter what," he said.

It's the kind of drama spilling into a family-friendly store that Wal-Mart says it won't tolerate. Company spokeswoman Erin Hofmann issued us this statement:

"Our management team immediately responded to the incident, contacted the police department and did their best to keep the customers safe. The safety and security of our customers and associates is our top priority and we continually review our safety measures on a store-by-store basis to make them more effective."

Employees are holding them to their word and have a few words for those who use theirs only to spur hate.

"Treat the next person with respect regardless of what color or race or anything," said Finely.
