North Texas court building partially closed due to water leak

The 2nd floor through the 6th floor of the building will be closed through Friday, July 5.

DALLAS — The doors to the George Allen Courts Building in Downtown Dallas were closed Tuesday due to a "significant water leak" and will remain closed for the rest of the week.

The building is located on the 600 block of Commerce Street. All Tuesday court sessions and services had to be postponed.

Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins released a statement saying the water leak was from renovations taking place on the 6th floor on the northwest side of the courthouse.

Floors two through six of the building will be closed through Friday, July 5.

The first floor and the Jackson Street entrance are not affected and will be open to employees and the public.

"Any hearings scheduled for Wednesday will be conducted remotely, except the 95th Civil District Court which will be in person," Judge Jenkins said.

There is no word yet on how long it will take for the issue to be fully resolved.

The building houses courtrooms for the Dallas County Civil District courts, county courts at law, and the Texas Court of Appeals. The county clerk, district clerk and passport office are among the other services housed there.
