WATAUGA, Texas — Two officers fired at and fatally struck a man early Friday morning after the man reportedly raised a gun in their direction, Watauga police say.

Officers were called at about 3:30 a.m. Friday about a suicidal person in the 7700 block of Virgie Court who was armed and dangerous.

Upon arrival, police say officers began negotiating with the man, who fired the weapon several times inside his house during negotiations.

After hours of negotiation, police say the man exited the residence's front door with a gun and raised it in the direction of officers. Two officers responded by firing their weapons at the man, striking him.

Officers immediately rendered medical aid, police say, and he was taken by ambulance to a hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

No officers were hurt during the incident, police say.

The Texas Rangers are investigating the shooting. No further information was made available at this time.
