Walmart drone delivery service to start at 2 North Texas locations next week

The pilot program will last one year.

NORTH RICHLAND HILLS, Texas — A new drone delivery service at two North Texas Walmart locations is set to begin next week.

Drone delivery operations are expected to begin on Monday, April 22, at the Walmart SuperCenter located at 9101 North Tarrant Parkway and on Monday, April 29, at the Walmart SuperCenter located at 6401 NE Loop 820, according to a city press release.

Walmart and Wing Aviation partnered to provide the service to those North Texas locations. The North Richland Hills City Council approved the landing spots for the delivery service in February.

Operating hours will be from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. daily, and the new delivery service will be available to anyone within four miles of either store, including customers in neighboring cities, North Richland Hills officials said.

The drones can carry up to 2.3 pounds, "designed for over-the-counter meds, movie-night snacks or the ingredient you realize you’re missing at the last minute," a Walmart press release said.

Wing started providing drone delivery services in Frisco and Little Elm in 2022 and Lewisville in 2023, according to their website.

The pilot program in North Richland Hills will last one year.

As part of their final preparations, WalMart and Wing Aviation will be conducting validation flights from the Walmart SuperCenter on North Tarrant Parkway to Tommy & Sue Brown Park on Thursday and to JB Sandlin Park on Friday. These flights will occur between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m.
