DALLAS — Today’s the last day to register to vote in the Nov. 5 election.
With less than five weeks until election day, here’s what you need to know about deadlines and eligibility to register to vote.
To register to vote, Texans can contact their local voter registration office to complete the registration process or complete an application using the Texas Secretary of State online voter registration application and print, sign and mail it to their county election office.
Voter registration applications must be delivered to the county elections office or postmarked by Oct. 7.
The Dallas County Elections office at 1520 Round Table Drive will be open until 10 p.m. Monday and is hosting drive-thru voter registration. The Tarrant County Elections Office will be open until 5 p.m. at 2700 Premier Street in Fort Worth. The Collin County Elections Office will be open until 7 p.m. at 2300 Bloomdale Road in McKinney.
Who is eligible to vote?
In Texas, you’re eligible to vote if:
- You’re a U.S. citizen;
- You’re a resident of the county where you submit the application;
- You’re at least 17 years and 10 months old on the date your voter registration was submitted and 18 on election day;
- You’re not a convicted felon (you may be eligible to vote if you have completed your sentence, probation, and parole); and
- You have not been declared by a court exercising probate jurisdiction to be either totally mentally incapacitated or partially mentally incapacitated without the right to vote.
When is early voting for the Nov. 5 election?
- Early voting begins Oct. 21 and runs until Nov. 1.
