DALLAS — The joint pediatric campus being planned by UT Southwestern Medical Center and Children's Health just got a step closer to reality, as the Hamon Charitable Foundation has donated $25 million toward the project.

“For more than 40 years, the Hamons and the Hamon Foundation have helped to fuel the growth of our research and clinical programs, making an enduring impact on the health of our community,” said Daniel K. Podolsky, M.D., President of UT Southwestern, in a statement. “Their generosity and foresight have propelled the translation of discoveries into novel therapeutics and treatments for patients worldwide while also helping to ensure our ability to provide care needed by those in our own community.”

The 2 million-square-foot campus is planned to be built across from UTSW's William P. Clements Jr. University Hospital in Dallas' Southwestern Medical District. It will have two 12-story towers as well as an eight-story tower to replace the current Children's Medical Center in Dallas.

The campus is expected to feature 551 beds, a 38% increase from the current facility. The Level I pediatric trauma center will also include 90 emergency rooms and 24 observation rooms.

The Haron Charitable Foundation has had a long relationship with both companies, giving them more than $135 million to fund facilities, as well as patient care, education and biomedical research.

“The vision and investment of the Hamon Charitable Foundation across the past half-century have enabled us to provide comprehensive, compassionate, state-of-the-art care to the children and their families whom we are privileged to serve each day,” said Christopher Durovich, President and Chief Executive Officer at Children’s Health, in a statement. “Their gift for the new campus will not only provide resources for the advanced diagnosis and treatment of childhood illness and injury, but also will include industry-leading technology for our team members in the years ahead.”

These donations have also helped Children's Health launch a challenge grant for its Behavioral Health Integration and Guidance Initiative as well as the Fogelson Craniofacial Surgery Center.

“We are proud to support UT Southwestern and Children’s Health and their vision to advance pediatric health care and research for children in North Texas,” said Kelly E. Roach, President of the Hamon Charitable Foundation, in a statement. “The Hamons’ generosity will live on in the hearts and minds of the thousands of children and families who will be helped by this tremendous pediatric hospital project.”
