DENTON, Texas — At first glance, the courtyard of Clark Hall dorm at UNT looks unassuming. But something just happened there that's got a whole lot of folks on campus talking.
"He pulled me aside, said come look at this!" Carl Parsons, a mechanical engineer for UNT facilities told WFAA.
Two weeks ago, Parsons came to Clark Hall to replace a sanitary waste pipe. His team dug four feet deep hit before they something plastic, when they realized, it was a time capsule!
Parsons and his crew found a time capsule with the words, “Wild Women: 10-year reunion” written right on top. Carl took the capsule to UNT’s special collections, the department in charge of preserving rare and unique university materials.
Department head Morgan Gieringer’s team is working hard now to restore the items.
"Having a record of student life, what it’s like to be a student, and a certain point in history, those are some of the hardest stories to capture," Morgan told WFAA.
To try to tell the whole story, the university posted to Facebook, and asked their followers if anyone knew a 'wild woman.'
"And I’m like me! Me!" Letty Gallegos gushed to WFAA over Zoom. "I was like oh my God, oh my God, they found it!"
Gallegos is, you guessed it, ‘a wild woman.’ That's the name of a group of several third-floor Clark Hall residents, she explained, who became best girlfriends in the late seventies, and early eighties.
"I know it’s cliché to say lifelong friendships, but it’s true."
“The wild women” buried the capsule at their 10-year reunion back in ‘92. Gallegos said the lesson in their 32-year-long story is so obvious.
"To cherish your memories, because they can get you through the bad times and bring you a lot of fun as well when you go back and recollect."
