MESQUITE, Texas — Updated at 3:30 p.m. Friday with information on arrested students.
Two students were taken into custody after a shooting left one injured Thursday afternoon near the Mesquite High School.
The students were identified Friday as Treveon Sims-Hubbard, 17, of Mesquite, and Dwayne Lassai, 17, of Seagoville. They each face one charge of deadly conduct. They were held in jail in lieu of $15,000 bail.
The shooting started as a physical altercation about "an ongoing feud," Mesquite police officials said.
Mesquite police said they were first alerted to the shooting when they received a call at about 2 p.m. from a bank located near the school. Upon arriving at the scene, responders found one person, who hasn't been identified, shot in the arm, said Lt. Stephen Biggs, a spokesman with Mesquite police.
The injured person was transported to a nearby hospital and listed in stable condition.
A witness told investigators two people were spotted running into the nearby Mesquite High School after the shooting. After reviewing surveillance video, which confirmed that information, Mesquite High School officials locked down the campus.
Authorities identified the two individuals spotted on camera as students at the school and placed them in custody for questioning. Biggs said it's unclear at this time if the students played any role in the shooting.
No weapons were found on the campus, said the Mesquite Independent School District in a tweet.
An investigation into the shooting is ongoing.
