One man is in police custody and another is being treated for non-life threatening injuries after a truck crashed into a house off W. 12th Street on Monday.
Luis Vela was home, alone, when he heard a loud crash, felt his home shake, and heard part of the house collapsing. He rushed to the rear of his house and saw a Chevy Silverado with three young men inside. The truck flipped and was partially inside his home.
Neighbors say the damaged Silverado was one of two trucks involved in street racing along W. 12th Street. Witnesses say the crash happened as one of the trucks began switching lanes at a high rate of speed and abruptly hit the brakes. Relatives of another driver say their loved one crashed his small gray car into one of the trucks.
Vela says the three young men who were in the truck that crashed into his house, appeared dazed and confused as he approached the vehicle to help.
One of the trucks involved in the street racing incident left the scene. Police are searching for that vehicle.
Vela complains street racing is a serious problem in his neighborhood, especially at nights and on weekend. For now, he is waiting to see if and when he will be able to get back into his home.
