GRAYSON COUNTY, Texas — Three children were killed in a three-vehicle crash in Grayson County Friday, officials say.

The crash happened shortly before 7:30 p.m. on U.S. 69 near Penny Road, according to officials.

A Hyundai Elantra was traveling southbound on U.S. 69 when traffic began to slow and the driver, identified as Hyrum Grandy, 40, of Lone Oak, veered onto the shoulder to avoid a crash, according to the Texas Department of Public Safety (DPS).

When Grandy got back into the southbound lane, he hit a Ford F150 driven by Angel Martinez, 34, of Celest, and went into the northbound lane, officials say.

A Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Lane Recer, 29, of Trenton, then hit the left side of Grandy’s Elantra, according to DPS.

The three children in the Elantra with Grandy – aged 10, 13, and 14 – were killed in the crash, according to DPS. The children were identified as Alvin Grandy, Amara Grandy, and Alexander Grandy.

No additional details were available from Texas DPS.

The crash remains under investigation.
