GARLAND, Texas — A Garland resident won big in the Texas Lottery this month.

Lottery officials on Wednesday announced that the Garland resident, who is staying anonymous, claimed a share of the $2.25 million prize from the Oct. 12 drawing of the Texas Two Step Jackpot.

They bought their ticket at the Old Town Store, 509 W. Avenue.

The winner had the four correct white ball numbers, plus the bonus ball, to win the jackpot. The only catch? Someone in Houston also had the same matching numbers.

The winning tickets -- 4, 10, 11, 23 plus the bonus 4 -- were both sold via the quick pick method. So it was just random luck that they both turned out to be the same numbers, splitting the prize. The Two Step Jackpot has had multiple winners before, according to lottery data.

The jackpot starts at $200,000 and then increases each drawing until there is a winner. Drawings are held every Monday and Thursday night.
