Texans pack debate watch parties for showdown between Ted Cruz, Colin Allred

It's the kind of turnout you'd expect for the one and only debate between them.

DALLAS — It's the kind of turnout you'd expect for the one and only debate between them. Watch parties at both camps in Dallas were a huge draw.

Congressman Colin Allred's supporters met at the Angelika Film Center while supporters for U.S. Senator Ted Cruz were at The Rustic.

But the day started with a small group of Allred supporters outside the WFAA studios, where the debate was held, who were eager for a good debate.

"[We want] a substantive discussion of the issues and not trading soundbites," said Jennifer Owen, an Allred supporter.

There was plenty of both. The debate had its share of barbs but it also had some back-and-forth that could help the undecided voter decide on Nov. 5.

"I think he's talking about his record. I think he's talking about Allred's record. I think he's talking about what's important for Texans," said Steve Palagyi, a Cruz supporter.

"All the things Ted Cruz says he wants to do, he's had 12 years to do," said Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins.

All the big topics you expected them to talk about, they did and those topics got the biggest jeers and cheers of the night. They covered abortion, the border, inflation, and several other topics in the one-hour debate.

"Of course Ted Cruz is mopping the floor with him," laughed Jamie Harper, a Cruz supporter.

"There were two things on stage: truth and lies. Congressman did a masterful job at displaying the truth," said Kardal Coleman, Chair for the Dallas County Democrats.

The debate had its share of moments; whether it's Allred calling Cruz 'All Hat And No Cattle' or Cruz calling Allred another Kamala Harris.

The question remains, did the debate move the needle for the undecided voter?
