FORT WORTH, Texas — Pianists representing 45 countries and regions submitted applications to the seventeenth edition of the Van Cliburn International Piano Competition, according to a press release.
The competition received applications from 340 pianists, all seeking to compete in the Cliburn, which will be held in Fort Worth from May 21 through June 7, 2025. Up to 84 pianists from this pool will be invited to participate in screening auditions from March 16 to 22, 2025 at PepsiCo Recital Hall at TCU.
The auditions will be free and open to the public, the release states.
China, the U.S., South Korea and Italy are the most common countries of origin among the pianists. China has the most representation with 102 applicants. 89 women and 251 men applied, the release states.
“The applications are in, and now the carefully orchestrated process begins to select the 30 pianists who will join the ranks of Cliburn competitors next May,” Jacques Marquis, Cliburn President and CEO, said. “We send our thanks and best wishes to each of the 340 applicants. The future of classical music is bright—and each of these artists is proof of that.”
The group of pianists selected to participate in screening auditions will be announced on Jan. 28, 2025, the release states. Just 30 competitors will participate in the competition.
