Trinity Metro, Tarrant County's public transit agency, is adding trains to expand the frequency of rail service to Dallas Fort Worth International Airport.
The organization will add four more trains to its existing TexRail line-up of eight. A contract with train manufacturer Stadler was announced this week and framed as a response to the growing demand for transportation options in North Texas.
The delivery of the four new DMU FLIRT vehicles is expected in 2027.
Trinity Metro operates transit services including buses and TexRail to DFW Airport, as well as the Trinity Railway Express in partnership with Dallas Area Rapid Transit. The agency was created in 1983 and began its partnership with Stadler in 2016. The current TexRail cars were put into service in 2019 and have serviced more than 500,000 miles.
Trinity Metro officials say that the expansion will increase TexRail service to 30-minute intervals, doubling the frequency of the existing service.
