FORT WORTH, Texas — A Keller Independent School District student was detained by police for bringing a firearm on campus Monday.

It happened at Fossil Ridge High School in Fort Worth, Keller ISD said.

Parents received an email from the district officials Monday afternoon detailing what happened.

The district said it received a tip from a student about the potential of a gun being on campus. The school immediately went into "hold" mode, which means students clear hallways and remain where they are until the all clear is announced.

"The investigation was conducted in collaboration with the Fort Worth Police Department and Keller ISD’s Safety and Security Department," the district said in a statement.

Fort Worth police detained the student and confiscated the weapon, Keller ISD said.

All students have been reported as safe.

Keller ISD released the following statement:

"We encourage you to take this opportunity to remind your own students that no weapons of any type, nor anything resembling a weapon, are allowed at school. Bringing these prohibited items onto school grounds is a violation of the Keller ISD Code of Conduct and state law, and consequences can include criminal charges.

Throughout Keller ISD, the safety of our students is our top priority, and we are thankful that proper action taken by students and staff allowed law enforcement to intervene in this situation," the district said in a letter to parents.
