One person injured in Fort Worth shooting, police say

Police say one person of interest is in custody.

FORT WORTH, Texas — One person of interest is in custody after another person was shot Friday afternoon, Fort Worth police say.

Police were able to respond quickly, officials say, as neighborhood patrol officers were nearby for a parade.

The shooting took place at about 1:49 p.m. in the 5700 block of Shelton Street, police say. The victim was taken to a hospital.

Police said the victim is an adult black male who has no affiliation with Eastern Hills High School, which is located near where the shooting took place.

Fort Worth ISD sent a letter to parents of students in Eastern Hills High School.

"Earlier today our campus was placed on lockdown due to a situation taking place in the neighborhood, outside our campus," the district stated. "This occurred at the same time as our parade, which was wrapping up, and all students were brought inside the building."

The lockdown was lifted once police assessed the situation and determined the campus wasn't at risk, the letter detailed.

"Safety is the top priority on our campus, and it is our commitment to communicate with you when a situation impacting our students and staff takes place in our school," the letter stated.

Police say they are searching for shell casings and any video of the shooting to determine the motive.
