FORT WORTH, Texas — A student was arrested at Arlington Heights High School in Fort Worth ISD after the student was found to have a weapon on campus, according to school officials and police. The school’s principal says they’ve also implemented additional security measures.
According to a Fort Worth police report, school staff reported smelling marijuana in one of the restrooms on the campus in the 4500 block of W. Freeway and the weapon was found during a search of a 16-year-old student’s property.
No threats were made to students or staff, no injuries were reported, and the student was taken to a juvenile detention center without incident, police say. It’s unclear what the weapon was.
“Out of an abundance of caution, the Fort Worth Police conducted a search of a student this afternoon following reports of suspicious activity,” Arlington Heights High School Principal Dr. Justin Barrett wrote in a letter. “During the search, a weapon was found in the student's possession, and the individual was immediately arrested. All students and staff are safe.”
“The local police are actively investigating the situation and have assured us that there is no ongoing threat to the safety of our students and staff,” Barrett added. “Please be aware that all school activities are continuing as scheduled, and we have implemented additional security measures to ensure the safety of everyone on campus.”
