Historic Bushong Cabin moved more than a mile to new home on Main Street in Grapevine

The cabin was originally built in 1858 on Silverside Drive near where the Gaylord Texan Resort sits.

GRAPEVINE, Texas — The historic Bushong log cabin was moved more than a mile to its new home at Liberty Plaza on historic Main Street in Grapevine Friday.

The cabin was originally built in 1858 on Silverside Drive near where the Gaylord Texan Resort sits by George Emanuel Bushong, who built the first cotton gin in the Grapevine area and taught in the Grape Vine Prairie when it was newly settled. Bushong was noted for his role in developing many of the businesses and buildings still standing on Main Street. He founded the Grapevine National Bank and served as its first president, a position he held until his death.

Upon its move to Liberty Plaza, the cabin will be restored to its original 1858 appearance with an attached shed to the rear, according to Gov. Greg Abbott’s office.

“The relocation of the Bushong Lob Cabin is another significant step in preserving Grapevine’s history and underscores Grapevine’s dedication to maintaining its historical landmarks for future generations to appreciate,” a press release states. “This project is made possible by funds raised at Grapevine’s annual festivals including Main Street Fest and GrapeFest and through the Grapevine Heritage Foundation.”
