FORT WORTH, Texas — Traffic was backed up to a standstill along the westbound lanes of Loop 820 in Fort Worth on Friday night as police investigated the scene of a traffic incident that they said turned fatal shortly after 8 p.m.
According to the Fort Worth Police Department, police were called to 2110 Northwest Loop 820 Freeway after receiving reports that a person was struck by a vehicle on the highway.
Upon arriving at the scene, officers said they determined that the incident stemmed from an earlier hit-and-run accident.
Police said the driver, who had caused that initial crash along the highway, exited their car and attempted to leave the scene of the collision by running across the freeway.
While doing so, police said, they were "struck by multiple vehicles."
Officers pronounced the person dead shortly after arriving on the scene, FWPD said.
