FORT WORTH, Texas — A family dog died in a fire that heavily damaged a Fort Worth home Wednesday afternoon, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.
Around 11 a.m. firefighters went to the 2900 block of Portales Avenue where they found a single-story house engulfed in heavy smoke and fire, FWFD said.
Crews immediately started dousing flames from the attic. Inside, firefighters had to pull parts of the ceiling down to gain control of the blaze, while others searched the home for three dogs who were still inside.
There was one resident inside the home when the fire broke out. However, FWFD said he managed to escape before firefighters arrived.
Firefighters rescued three dogs. Medstar was able to revive two of the pups, but one did not survive.
It took fire crews about 20 minutes to knock down the flames. No injuries to firefighters or residents were reported.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
