35 displaced, 8 units damaged after fire guts Fort Worth apartment complex

Video shot by WFAA of the scene showed flames engulfing part of the two-story apartment building and heavy smoke as crews battled the flames.

FORT WORTH, Texas — An apartment fire in a Fort Worth neighborhood displaced at least 35 people Tuesday afternoon.

Firefighters were called to the Quail Ridge Apartments in the 4500 block of Brentwood Stair Road near I-30 in Fort Worth shortly before 1 p.m.

Fire crews arrived to find heavy smoke billowing from the first floor of a building and rescued two dogs from the bottom floor, according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.

"The fire grew and a second alarm was called giving the crews on scene additional resources," according to the Fort Worth Fire Department.

Fire officials say it took about 44 firefighters to bring the fire under control in about 35 minutes. No injuries were reported with eight units affected and 35 people displaced.

A spokesperson with the Quail Ridge Apartments said those impacted "lost nearly everything in the fire."

"Our management team has already arranged temporary housing for these families, and the Red Cross, Community Safety Partnership division of the Fort Worth Police Department, Fort Worth ISD Family Action Center, and MOMA are assisting with resources for them," a spokesperson said in a statement.

Video of the scene shot by WFAA showed flames engulfing part of the two-story apartment building and heavy smoke as crews battled the flames.

WFAA chopper footage shows a portion of the roof of one of the buildings largely collapsed.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
