ID=72552130ARLINGTON -- Detectives have solved an Arlington cold case from 1999.

Tami King was murdered 16 years ago on Feb. 28. DNA was found at the crime scene and entered into a national database while her murder went unsolved.

In August of this year, police say they were alerted to a DNA match in the system, leading them to Jerry Shorts of Fort Worth. He was brought in for questioning and asked to submit DNA, but he refused.

While detectives were working to get a search warrant, they were told Shorts committed suicide on Sept. 3.

His DNA collected after death matched the DNA collected at the scene of King's murder and the case has been closed.
