Man armed with knife shot, killed by officers responding to hotel altercation, police say

Arlington police said officers responded to a hotel early Wednesday morning for a report of a disturbance.

ARLINGTON, Texas — A man who was armed with a knife was shot and killed by officers at a Motel 6 early Wednesday morning, according Arlington police.

The Arlington Police Department said officers responded at approximately 1 a.m. to the 900 block of N. Collins Street for a report of a disturbance at a hotel. WFAA crews responded to the scene, which is a Motel 6 across the street from AT&T Stadium. 

According to police, officers arrived and found two men were involved in a physical altercation in a hotel room. One of the men was armed with a knife, police said. Police at the scene told WFAA the man with the knife was knocking on doors at the motel and one of the guests opened the door. That's when the two men got into a fight, according to police. An employee at the front desk of the hotel heard the altercation and then called police.

Officers fired their weapons, and the man with the knife was struck, according to APD. The man was transported to a local hospital where he died from his injuries. 

Arlington police said no officers were injured. 

No further information was immediately available. WFAA will update this story as we learn more information.
