'So appreciative' | Tarrant Area Food Bank receives $32,000 grant

The grant from the Morgan Stanley Foundation will support the food bank's Ready to Learn program ahead of the school year.

FORT WORTH, Texas — The Tarrant Area Food Bank received a $32,000 grant from the Morgan Stanley Foundation to support its Ready to Learn program ahead of the school year.

The Ready to Learn program is a children-focused initiative for education through the expansion of in-school food pantries, targeted kids' programming and the construction of a kid-friendly market at TAFB where families can receive groceries.

"Tarrant Area Food Bank is so appreciative of this grant money from the Morgan Stanley Foundation during a critical time when kids and families are struggling in the summer,” said Julie Butner, President and CEO of the Tarrant Area Food Bank. “This donation will have an immediate impact on feeding the community with our Ready to Learn School Market program as kids go back to school in the coming weeks.”

TAFB is one of 44 Feeding America partner food banks receiving funding from the Morgan Stanley Foundation this year. The foundation is the philanthropic arm of the Morgan Stanley financial services company located in New York. It announced an additional $8 million in funding over the next four years to Feeding America, bringing the firm's total funding for hunger relief programs to more than $50 million since 2009.

With a network of over 500 partner agencies, TAFB provides access to more than one million meals each week for children and adults impacted by food insecurity. In the 2023 fiscal year alone, the food bank provided more than 47 million meals to people across the 13 North Texas counties it serves.
