DALLAS — After days of radio silence from Kansas City Chiefs wideout Rashee Rice, the Super Bowl champ finally addressed his involvement in a car accident Saturday that shut down Central Expressway.
Wednesday he posted this message to his Instagram story:
“Today I met with Dallas PD investigators regarding Saturday's accident," the statement reads. "I take full responsibility for my part in this matter and will continue to cooperate with the necessary authorities. I sincerely apologize to everyone impacted.”
Dallas police confirm they met with Rice Wednesday to answer questions, and according to sources, Rice admitted to DPD he was driving the Lamborghini involved in the chain reaction collision.
According to the police report obtained by WFAA, a total of six people were split between the Lamborghini and the Corvette that were speeding on 75 northbound just before 6:30 Saturday evening. The luxury cars lost control and caused a crash that involved six vehicles.
All of the occupants of the Lamborghini and Corvette fled the scene -- leaving multiple victims behind without exchanging information or insurance, and without checking to make sure everyone was OK.
The police report also says marijuana was found in both cars, as well as credit cards, a $16,500 check, a diamond chain, and the playbook for the Kansas City Chiefs.
Two of the crash victims were taken to the hospital.
A husband and wife are represented by attorney Tennessee Walker, managing litigation partner at Patterson Law Group.
Walker said his clients suffered concussions and the wife has extensive eye injuries that required stitches on her eyelid.
"While I am glad he met with Dallas Police, it is well past time for everyone responsible to be direct and forthright with the victims and the public, but that is not happening," Walker told WFAA. "I hope that changes soon."
Police sources say Rice is the only person who walked away from the scene they've spoken with and charges will be filed once they have collected evidence proving the extent of all the victims' injuries.
Both cars involved in the crash are linked to Rice. He’s leasing the Corvette and was renting the Lamborghini from Classic Lifestyle.
“It started sometime mid-to-late March and it was a multi-month agreement that was going to go through a portion of June," said Kyle Coker, the attorney representing the luxury rental company.
Coker says Rice texted his client after the crash.
“There was a confirmation that Mr. Rice was at the scene, that there had been an accident, and that he would pay for the damage caused to the vehicle that we leased to him,” Coker said.
He said they’ve been in contact with Rice’s attorneys about reimbursement for the $250,000 car.
Rice was born in Philadelphia but grew up and attended school in North Richland Hills. He played college football at nearby SMU, where a breakout senior season in 2022 put the wide receiver on the radar of NFL teams.
