Sundance Head, winner of 'The Voice,' flown to Tyler hospital following shooting

Details are limited.

TYLER, Texas — A country music singer has been taken to an area medical center following a shooting.

Sundance Head, winner of season 11 of "The Voice," was shot in the stomach and flown to a Tyler hospital Friday night, according to his wife, Misty.

Misty says the doctors told her the bullet went in above Sundance's navel, missing all of his vital organs.

"He will not require surgery as they are not removing the bullet," Misty said via her husband's Facebook page. "I’m sure she said why but my head is in a fog right now. Him being on the bigger side was a good thing. Bullet is in his fatty tissue. Thanks for all the prayers."

Sundance competed on "American Idol," in 2007, but was eliminated before the final round. He went on to win "The Voice," in 2017 as part of Team Blake Shelton.

"We know it was either an accident or a nearby hunter — a stray bullet, possibly," the singer's agent, Trey Newman, told Entertainment Weekly.

CBS19 will update this article as more information becomes available.
