DALLAS — You might have participated in your school science fair or your local county fair. But, have you ever entered a creative project in the legendary State Fair of Texas competition? Now’s your chance, but you have to act fast.

The final time for mail-in entries has passed, but the online entry forms continue until Aug. 2. That gives you some time to get a project together or find a project you did as recently as 2018 (but nothing older).

There are over a 1,000 entry categories, so you’re likely to find something that fits your creative style. And, it’s not just artwork; there are food categories too. Most categories are broken up into Adult, Junior and Kids divisions, so the whole family can participate. Entry fees range from $2 to $6.

In fact, the State Fair of Texas is really encouraging more kid’s entries in 2019.

A few of our favorite categories include Fantasy Paintings, Egg Art (no artificial eggs), Beeswax Sculptures, Coathanger Crafts, Clown Dolls, Watermelon Preserves, Mustards, Bell Collections, Toy Collections, Halloween Decorations, Crocheted Socks, Computerized Embroidery, Adult LEGO Creations, and Shoebox Parade Floats.

Keep in mind, after you enter online, you will need to hand-deliver your project to Fair Park from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Aug. 9-11.

Pre-Fair pickups with non-winning entries occur in September and award winning entires need to be picked up after the Fair in October. See the official guidebook for details.
