SPRINGTOWN, Texas — Four people were killed, including two children, in a head-on crash in Parker County on Sunday afternoon, officials said.

The crash happened around 2:15 p.m. on Farm Road 51, just south of Friendship Road, which is in an area between Springtown and Weatherford, according to a Texas Department of Public Safety news release.

A 43-year-old woman and three passengers -- a 66-year-old man and two nine-year-old girls -- were heading north on 51 when a southbound vehicle veered into their lane and hit them head-on.

The woman survived the crash, but her three passengers died, the release said. The 66-year-old man was identified by officials as Gregory Daniel Schilb, of Springtown, while the two children's names have not been released.

The driver of the vehicle that crashed into them also died in the crash. She was identified as 29-year-old Kathryn Elizabeth Lain, of Boyd, according to the release.

Officials said it was unknown why Lain veered into the northbound lane and crashed into the other vehicle. More information about the crash was not released. Authorities are still investigating.

On Monday morning, the Springtown Independent School District posted about a crash. While the district did not name any of the victims, they said two of the victims who died were fourth-graders in the district. Also, a teacher at Goshen Creek Elementary School was severely injured in the crash, school district officials said.

"Our hearts ache for the families of those we lost, for our entire district, and for our community as a whole," the district statement said. "We are heartbroken to hear about any life that was lost during this tragedy. Life is so precious and way too short. During this difficult time, we ask that you hold them in your thoughts and prayers."
