Spectrum service partially restored after widespread outages in Texas

In a post to Spectrum's official account on Twitter/X, the company said the issue was caused by the impact of Beryl this week.

TEXAS, USA — Spectrum continues to respond to widespread outages affecting Texas customers in the aftermath of severe weather this week, including multiple local and state agencies.

In the latest post to Spectrum's official customer service account on Twitter/X around 7:30 p.m., the company said "services had been restored in parts of Texas that were affected by a third-party infrastructure issue caused by the impact of Hurricane Beryl."

Service outages were first being reported around 1 p.m., at which point the company started responding to resolve the issues.

Downdetector.com, the website that tracks service outages nationwide, shows a spike in reports of outages for Verizon customers in Austin, Houston, San Antonio and Dallas around 1 p.m. It also shows a spike in reports of outages for AT&T customers in the same cities around the same time.

How is the outage impacting San Antonio?

The Bexar County Sheriff's Office said on its Facebook page that people with Spectrum service may not be able to call 911 and attributed Hurricane Beryl's impact in Houston as a possible source of the outage. The storm brought 80 mph winds and heavy rain to the Houston area and knocked out power to hundreds of thousands of homes upon its arrival Monday morning.

"ALERT:  if you have phone service provided by SPECTRUM, you will not be able to call 911. A tower in Houston was impacted due to the storm and affecting internet service in the region. We will share an update as soon as possible, the BCSO post read.

The San Antonio Police Department said something similar, alerting residents that the outage could "affect emergency phone calls." County officials later said Spectrum users can get through to 911 dispatchers if they use a voice-over IP system.

Additionally, CPS Energy in San Antonio said on Twitter/X it was also aware of a "state-wide internet service interruption" that was affecting wait times for customers calling phone lines.

"We’re aware of the statewide internet service interruption, which includes our service area. Please know this may result in long wait times for customers calling our phone lines.  We thank customers for their patience as internet providers work to resolve the issue," the company's post read.
